Cherry BBQ Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 yellow onion

  • 3 cloves garlic

  • 3 c fresh cherries

  • 1 3/4 c tomato sauce

  • 1/4 c ketchup

  • 1/4 c brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/4 c apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tsp liquid smoke

  • 1 tbsp chipotle peppers

  • 1 tsp garlic salt

  • 1 tbsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder

  • 1/2 tsp chili powder

  • Salt, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prep your ingredients: roughly chop the onion and garlic. Halve and pit the cherries.

  2. Add everything to a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat and cook for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the cherries break down and the sauce thickens.

  3. Blend until completely smooth with an immersion or jar blender.

  4. Taste and adjust salt. Serve with grilled chicken, pulled pork, chicken nuggets, or anything that needs barbecue sauce!
